Is it mere coincidence or meaningful synchronicity?
In one day of my life recently:
The electric keyless lock on my front door stopped working
The secondary deadbolt lock wouldn’t fit into its slot – the male part didn’t fit in the female part
I split up with a man I had been dating for awhile
A ceramic bowl with a yin-yang symbol on it split in half when I touched it
My light switch for overhead lights burned out
My dog was nipped by a neighbor’s dog on our walk
I was “nipped” by the neighbor’s harsh response to my concern about his dog and consequently that relationship chilled
Acausal reality – synchronicity
Whoa! What’s going on here? I’m a firm believer that there is no such thing as a “mere coincidence”. I subscribe to Carl Jung’s concept of synchronicity…that events that happen co-incidentally correspond to each other in meaning, rather than a cause and effect relationship. So, there must be something going on in my energy field or consciousness that relates these events. There is an attraction between events and thoughts that have similar energy or meaning. The similar meaning of these events seems to be breaking in a flash of energy. What more is there to that story?
Archetypal astrology
Being a student of astrology as well as Jungian psychology, I took a look at my planetary transits that day to see what metaphorical insights they might give me. Aha! More food for thought. So…I saw that Mars (planet of anger, attack, and energy, among other things) was in a very challenging aspect with Uranus (intuition, sudden, electricity), Pluto (personal empowerment, deep psychology) and my own Sun (my true Self). With years of study, I’ve gained an intuitive feel for what I see in the chart, and it all made perfect sense to me. The energies are indicating my challenges with speaking up for myself, speaking my truth, not caring so much about what the other person thinks so that I don’t stand my ground.
Sometimes, life seems to come at me from left field. This is one of those times. Uranus is behind the scenes with his erratic, eccentric, change-provoking, and self-empowering energies.
Planetary ruler of the sign of Aquarius (and also ruler of astrology, occultism and mysticism), Uranus signifies the fast-paced, unsettling, changes that are making my head spin.

In society, it rules radical ideas and people, as well as revolutionary events that upset established structures. Uranus, among all planets, most governs genius.”
I’m practically panting as one relationship after another suddenly changes, ends, reverses, or takes on a new tone. I’m so grateful for my understanding of astrology to help me embrace these changes as necessary for my spiritual health.
Uranus Transiting the Seventh House
Love and freedom may not be true opposites, but they’re not exactly natural bedmates either. If we love, we make compromises. In a spirit of gentleness and generosity toward those we love, we relinquish certain aspects of our natures. We forgive and we forebear. On top of that, intimacy itself breeds familiarity—and familiarity breeds blindness, numbness, and scripted behavior.
When Uranus shakes up the Seventh House, all those issues press—and not only in our sexual relationships; they press in our friendships and professional associations as well. In the name of love, we’ve sacrificed too much of the actual present reality of who we are. That’s the main reason we don’t feel “seen” That’s why we are behaving in rebellious and difficult ways, feeling ready to throw the baby out with the bath water. We must recognize that, while we may be looking at partnerships that have run their courses and are no longer viable, there’s a good chance that all we need to do is to “punch Reset”—put our cards on the table, demanding that our “deal” be re-designed to reflect the person we have actually become. Typically, that involves more “space” for each of us, less homogeneity in the partnership, and a lot more room for honest differences.
Where can you do a Uranian “reset” of your own in your life? You needn’t wait for Uranus to instigate the changes. Don’t worry about what others will think as you make sudden “do-overs” that feel right to you. Friends and family may find it hard to keep up with you right now!
